Burial will follow at Corpus Christi Cemetery. | | Visitation: Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday with a Rosary Service at 5:15 P.M. and a Vigil Service at 7:00 P.M. at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. | | Obituary: Martha Underberg, 94, of Fort Dodge, died on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at the Sunny Knoll Care Center in Rockwell City, IA. Martha was born in Fort Ransom, North Dakota on January 17, 1916 to Henry and Nellie (Watterson) Sanders. She graduated from Auburn High School at the age of 16 with a 4 year scholarship to Buena Vista College but instead she married Lawrence Underberg in 1936. She was a loving mother to their 11 children and always put her family before herself. She was a homemaker and also worked and retired from Trinity Regional Medical Center (Mercy Hospital) in 1979. She had a great love for learning; she also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and watching informative television.
Martha is survived by her children, Dorothy Demery of Glendale, AZ, Robert (Pat) Underberg of Daniel, WY, Carol and Larry Hood of Lohrville, IA, Lela Gergen of Lake City, IA, Margery Hobart of Lohrville, IA, Ted (Paula) Underberg of Martinsburg, WV, Tom (Linda) Underberg of San Diego, CA, Mike (Louise) Underberg of Ankeny, IA, James Underberg of New Hope, PA, Jerry (Lynn) Underberg of Fort Dodge, IA; 42 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence; son Lawrence Underberg Jr.; granddaughter Margery Hood; her parents; sisters Julia (Otis) Larson and Mary (Wilbur) Kerr; brothers Elwin (Mabel) Sanders and Lyle (Pearl) Sanders.
