Phil Gunderson, owner and funeral director at Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, grew up in Fort Dodge. He is a graduate of St. Edmond High School and the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science.
Phil has been a funeral director since 1980 and returned to the family business in 1982. He became President of Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in 1989.
Phil is very active in the community serving as a member of the Trinity Regional Medical Center Board of Directors, the Saint Edmond Development Board, the Friendship Haven Board of Directors, the Fort Dodge Betterment Foundation Board, and is chairman of the Berryhill Center for Mental Health Board. He is a member and former President of the Fort Dodge Kiwanis, Trustee of Mid-America Council of Boy Scouts of America, and a member of the Fort Dodge Chamber of Commerce. Phil volunteers as a mentor in the Bridges Mentoring Program and is a member of the Webster County Development Corporation, the Iowa Funeral Directors Association, the National Funeral Directors Association, the Cremation Association of North America and the Order of the Golden Rule. He is also a member of the Corpus Christi Church.
Phil and his wife Keely have a son, Robert who has recently returned to serve on the funeral home staff.
